About these figures
- Covers active companies whose owners (persons with significant control) are all individuals with a known date of birth. Companies owned by other companies, or with no owner recorded, are not counted.
- Age is each owner's youngest possible age from the birth month and year Companies House publishes, so nobody counted as 65 or over could be 64.
- Location is the company's registered office, which is not always where it trades.
- Registered offices at bulk company-formation addresses (postcodes with 500 or more active companies) are excluded.
- A company listing several industry (SIC) codes counts under each, so industry shares can add up to more than 100%.
- Ranges are 95% intervals. Sub-regions whose ranges overlap are not reliably different, whatever their rank.
- Industries shown for a sub-region are those most over-represented there compared with the UK, among codes with at least 30 such companies.
- Figures are a snapshot as of 12 October 2026.
